You have the opportunity to purchase a ‘52’ registration Mercedes SL500 V8 Tiptronic/Automatic with only 66,700 miles which (as you have no doubt seen from the above links) has been superbly looked after throughout its life.

Furthermore as this vehicle was first registered before March 2006 it is not affected by the new higher road taxation rates; specifically a year’s tax is currently just £215 and will rise by just £30 after April 2010 to £245 (as will almost every other car).

To avoid confusion please be aware that the private registration number that you see in the pictures is not included as part of this sale and it will be supplied with an age related new DVLA issued ‘52’ registration number.

To purchase this vehicle we only require a £500 deposit which you can do over the phone or via Pay Pal;

COSMETIC CONDITION

As you will have already seen through the above links this car’s interior and exterior condition is quite exceptional (these are wealthy people’s cars and this group of individuals are not always the most careful with their possessions). Specifically it is free from any accident damage or other general ‘abuse’ and obviously has no rust or any similar issues of potential concern.

HOW CAN YOU BE SURE THIS IS A GOOD CAR?

It is very hard to accurately represent a vehicles condition simply through words and pictures however as experienced car dealers with over 80 years of combined experience within the company there are a number of things we have learnt to look for that give a good gauge of a cars history. This is the reason that we include so many pictures of things that you are probably not used to seeing in a car advert; specifically we include these pictures for the following reasons.

1.     Door & body shuts - so that you can inspect for yourself that there is no rust in the seams, evidence of replacement door skins, ‘over-spray’ from previous repairs or other signs of a ‘very bad car’ à The car you are viewing has no rust or overspray on any door or body shuts and has not had any replacement door skins

2.     Wing bolt heads - the front wings of most cars are fixed to the chassis by a set of small bolts that are painted at the same time as the body when the car is new. If a car has been in an accident these bolts will have had this factory paint coating damaged as a result of them having to be un-bolted or adjusted à The car you are viewing has never had its wing bolts undone or adjusted and as such they are complete with their factory paint coating

3.     Panel gaps - individual manufactures vary, however they generally expend a great deal of effort insuring their vehicles leave the factory with even panel gaps as it is an inference of both the quality of the car, and their manufacturing process. Unless a car has been in an accident these gaps should be the same as when they left the factory à The car you are viewing has all the correct panel gaps and its shuts and closures fit as they should

4.     Factory stickers - when a car is made the factory apply a number of stickers (both on the glass and in the shuts) that cover various information or warning messages. These ‘factory stickers’ are always missing from cars that have had accident repair because they are virtually impossible to obtain outside of the manufactures factory environment à The car you are viewing is complete with all its original factory stickers

5.     Glass - all the glass on an accident free car (with the exception of maybe the windscreen) should have the correct factory insignia and originate from the same factory date as if a car is in a big accident invariably it all gets broken and when it is replaced the date stamps will be different à The glass on the car you are viewing has the correct insignia and originates from the same factory date

6.     A full service history – apart from corroborating the vehicles mileage cars with a full service history will have had any recalls and other work carried out as soon as they were appropriate as well as having had all the minor (for want of a better term) ‘bits and pieces’ attended to. Additionally a full and regular service history indicates that the cars owner had the money and motivation to properly look after it and we have traditionally found that this provides a good inference on their approach to taking care of, and maintaining the vehicle in general à The car you are viewing has a full service history

7.     HPI Clear – the HPI register or “hit list” as it is sometimes know is the national database for all accidents, finance and theft records that relate to a vehicle. A car’s HPI certificate will show each category and report any applicable data and for a car to be ‘HPI clear’ it must report “NOT RECORDED” after every category which means that the vehicle has not been involved in any insurance payouts, write-offs or theft and also that it has no un-cleared finance still owing à The car you are viewing is HPI CLEAR and is supplied with an original copy HPI certificate

MECHANICAL CONDITION

As you would expect of a car with this low mileage and after viewing all the above photographs, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this car in terms of its mechanical condition. Most certainly if you have not driven one of these before you will be very surprised at how nice they are to drive. The roads around London are always full of incredibly expensive new cars but I can never really work out how people ever manage to rationalise the cost or what their owners could possibly be getting that a car like this does not offer, except maybe a large monthly finance bill and the guarantee of savage depreciation in just three years and a handful of miles.

Specifically, it runs just as it should, does not leak or use any oil or water and is a real pleasure to drive. Additionally as you would expect of a full service history vehicle, the antifreeze and brake fluid is clean being free of contamination, as is the oil.

Most certainly if you have not driven one of these before you will be very surprised at how nice these V8 models are to drive. With over 300 BHP being transmitted through a modern 5 speed automatic gearbox this model actually has enough power to make a car of this size properly responsive (especially noticeable should you need to overtake on a hill). However, in terms of efficiency despite their power these models offer very good performance whilst still managing to return perfectly acceptable MPG as is evidenced in the official ‘Extra Urban’ figure of 32.1 MPG (this is in no small part due to the technologically advanced nature of this engine but is also related to the size of the engine being correctly suited to the weight of the body which means the vehicle can be used without resorting to low gears or heavy acceleration).

TYRES

This car has a full set of factory specification tyres and the all tools are all present and correct. In respect of individual tyre treads they are all excellent having been replaced within the last 7,000 miles.

ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS

·        The power roof works without fault

·        The Sat Nav system is complete with its disk and is fully operational

·        The air conditioning is fully functional

·        The Tiptronic/automatic transmission works smoothly, both on the up and down changes

·        The windows move swiftly without sticking & the remote central locking works on all doors

·        The ABS and other safety systems all do what they are supposed to when needed

·        The mirrors are in full working order

·        It does not have any interior leaks or warning lights showing on the dashboard, nor are there any service warnings on the display panel

·        The stereo and its remote systems all works as they should

·        The onboard computer is fully functional & all the display LEDs are without any ‘dead’ pixels

·        The cruise control is in full working order

There are no qualifications with the above statements, it starts, stops, goes round bends and drives in a way that is not tangibly different from what it must have been like when new with the engine sounding exactly as it should. We appreciate that it is a bold statement to suggest that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the mechanical components of a car, and that similar things are often said that rarely transpire to be the full truth; however, in this case (as in all our other eBay sales) it is. Please take your time to examine our feedback history from which you will see that we mean what we say and that all our previous customers were happy with their purchases.

POINTS OF NOTE;

·        The alloy wheels are doing quite well considering their age however they can no longer described as perfect as they have some very minor marks from having brushed a kerb at some point; these can be refinished to a totally ‘as new’ condition for around £50 each by an alloy wheel specialist (most offer an on site service), however we very much doubt that its new owner will deem this as necessary – to view the wheels please use the links at the very top of this listing.

·        As is the case with every car of this mileage that has not needed to have had a re-spray after an accident there are a number of very small stone chips and very fine scratches on the vehicle but nothing of any concern and certainly nothing requiring any attention or that would ever be noticed by anyone but its owner. There is however one scratch on the wing that is of note that this can be seen in close-up hear (please note that this is not a dent but a <1 cm scratch) - click here

·        The glove box is difficult to open if it does not get used very often

That is it! – Just so there is no confusion there is nothing else of any material note or potential concern regarding the cosmetic or mechanical condition of this car. When assessing this vehicle in respect to others being offered for sale, please bear in mind that we have explicitly stated whether all the mechanical and electrical items work or not, and have described in detail as well as shown in close up everything of possible interest.
