HOW CAN YOU BE SURE THIS IS A GOOD CAR?
It is very hard to accurately represent a vehicles condition
simply through words and pictures however as experienced car dealers with over
80 years of combined experience within the company there are a number of things
we have learnt to look for that give a good gauge of a cars history. This is
the reason that we include so many pictures of things that you are probably not
used to seeing in a car advert; specifically we include these pictures for the
following reasons.
1.
Door & body shuts - so that you can inspect for yourself
that there is no rust in the seams, evidence of replacement door skins,
‘over-spray’ from previous repairs or other signs of a ‘very bad car’ à The car you are viewing has no rust or
overspray on any door or body shuts and has not had any replacement door skins
2.
Wing
bolt heads - the front wings of most cars are fixed to the chassis by a set of
small bolts that are painted at the same time as the body when the car is new.
If a car has been in an accident these bolts will have had this factory paint
coating damaged as a result of them having to be un-bolted or adjusted à The car you are viewing has never had
its wing bolts undone or adjusted and as such they are complete with their
factory paint coating
3.
Panel
gaps - individual manufactures vary, however they generally expend a great deal
of effort insuring their vehicles leave the factory with even panel gaps as it
is an inference of both the quality of the car, and their manufacturing
process. Unless a car has been in an accident these gaps should be the same as
when they left the factory à The car you are
viewing has all the correct panel gaps and its shuts and closures fit as they
should
4.
Original Factory Tyres – a car with less than 30,000 miles
should still have all its original tyres and they should still be in good
condition à the car you are
looking at is complete with its original tyres and they are in good condition
5.
Factory stickers - when a car is made the factory apply a
number of stickers (both on the glass and in the shuts) that cover various
information or warning messages. These ‘factory stickers’ are always missing
from cars that have had accident repair because they are virtually impossible
to obtain outside of the manufactures factory environment à The car you are viewing is complete with
all its original factory stickers
6.
Supplying dealer number plates - if a car has both the
original front and rear number plates as fitted when the car was new (rather
than an accident repair centre) this is significant because it indicates that
it is unlikely to ever have had even the kind of light ‘bump’ that would
shatter the original plates à The car you are
viewing has both its original dealer supplied number plates
7.
Keys - if both original keys are present and they each work
in all the locks it is a strong indication that it has not had any locks
changed, which would have happened if it had been broken into or stolen at any
point in its life à The car you are
viewing has both original keys and they work in all the locks
8.
Glass - all the glass on an accident free car (with the
exception of maybe the windscreen) should have the correct factory insignia and
originate from the same factory date as if a car is in a big accident
invariably it all gets broken and when it is replaced the date stamps will be
different à The glass on the
car you are viewing has the correct insignia and originates from the same
factory date
9.
A full service history – apart from corroborating the vehicles
mileage cars with a full service history will have had any recalls and other
work carried out as soon as they were appropriate as well as having had all the
minor (for want of a better term) ‘bits and pieces’ attended to. Additionally a
full and regular service history indicates that the car’s owner had the money
and motivation to properly look after it and we have traditionally found that
this provides a good inference on their approach to taking care of, and
maintaining the vehicle in general à The car you are
viewing has a full service history
10.
HPI Clear – the HPI register or “hit list” as it is
sometimes know is the national database for all accidents, finance and theft
records that relate to a vehicle. A car’s HPI certificate will show each
category and report any applicable data and for a car to be ‘HPI clear’ it must
report “CHECKED AND CLEAR” after every category which means that the vehicle
has not been involved in any insurance payouts, write-offs or theft and also
that it has no un-cleared finance still owing à The car you are
viewing is HPI CLEAR and is supplied with an original copy HPI certificate
VIEWING ARRANGEMENTS
The car is available for viewing in a
small town called Churt which is approximately 12 miles from Guildford in
Surrey which is on the A3 about 8 miles out from junction 10 of the M25. Should
you wish to come by train Guildford station (a 25 minute journey from Waterloo)
is the closest station.
